Working in the Community

 

Derek Monnery has a strong interest in the community and devotes considerable amounts of time to the following activities: -

 

Essex Rail Users Federation

Derek Monnery was elected to be the first Chairman of the Essex Rail Users Federation in 2005.  The Federation is formed  from rail user groups in Chelmsford and Colchester and local groups in Alresford, Brentwood, Frinton-on-Sea, Ingatestone, Kelvedon, Manningtree, Marks Tey, Thorpe-le-Soken and Walton-on-the-Naze.  The role involves meetings with ministers, MPs, and senior managers of the Greater Anglia franchise and Network Rail.  He has actively been involved in negotiations concerning the mew rail franchise that started in October 2016 and has issued a wish list for investment during this period.  He has recently been asked to join the GreAter Anglia Stakeholder Board. His role as Chairman involves occasional radio and TV interviews.

Manningtree Rail Users Association

Derek has been a committee member of the Association since 1988.  He was Chairman from 2000 to 2005 and again from 2012 to the present day.

Bradfield Methodist Church

Derek has been a Steward of this church since 2008.  He has held various leadership roles in the church since 1995. Derek has been involved in several cross-denominational activities, including Walk of 1000 Men, and various initiatives working with teenagers and young people, including occasional assistance with the Hub at Manningtree.  Since 1997, he has been one of the leaders of the Bradfield Men's Breakfast which meets monthly.
